Eurovignette System: New for 2025

As of Jan. 1, 2025, the countries that still adopt the “Eurovignette” system for paying road tolls, namely the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Sweden, will apply a 1.9 percent increase on tariffs for motor vehicles and vehicle complexes over 12 tons.

Changes in the Tariff Structure

In an important change, the tariff structure will be revamped. From now on, toll determination will take CO2 emissions into account, in addition to the EURO emission class and the number of axles of the vehicle. This change aligns with European environmental goals, aiming to incentivize the use of less polluting vehicles.

Motor vehicles will be divided into five CO2 emission classes. The classification will range from emission class 1, which includes diesel trucks, to emission class 5, reserved for zero-emission vehicles. This new categorization offers an opportunity to improve the sustainability of road transport.

Vignettes Already Purchased

It is important to note that vignettes purchased before January 1, 2025 will remain valid for the duration for which they were purchased, thus providing continuity for already registered users.

Changes in Denmark

In addition, we inform that Denmark will continue to use the Eurovignette system until next December, but as of January 1, 2025 will switch to a kilometer toll system, which is already in use in most European countries. This shift represents another step toward greater uniformity in tolling systems across Europe.

These changes could have a significant impact on the management of heavy transport in Europe, promoting more environmentally friendly vehicles and responding to growing demands for environmental sustainability.
